Pop-up market gives Brownsville healthy options

A pop-up market in Brownsville is giving local residents healthy food options along Gaston Boulevard.

Last year, community leaders held a survey with residents in an effort to find out what they needed in the area. Neighbors responded by saying they need more healthy food options and a wider variety of fashion.

The New York City Economic Development Corporation and other community leaders turned a vacant lot into a pop-up market, featuring eight vendors. They had all sorts of items for sale including customized T-shirts, jewelry, handmade lotions and even fresh juice.

The market will be open from Friday through Sunday until Dec. 28.
