Jana Nelson is Principal for Strategic Communications. She leads Community Solutions’ team efforts to equip local communities to tell their own powerful stories and to harness the collective power of hundreds of success stories to shift the nation’s mindset from skepticism to optimism as the realization takes shape that homelessness is solvable. Jana believes that good stories move people and that a truly great story can change the world.
Before coming to Community Solutions, she served as Senior Vice President of Strategic Communication for the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) where she oversaw all facets of public relations (PR), member communications, website content development, and marketing efforts for the world’s largest emergency physician professional membership association. Jana also served as the National Program Director for Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) where she led a team that developed educational and programmatic programs and initiatives to stop impaired driving and prevent underage drinking and managed their implementation at the local, state and national level.
Jana holds a BFA from the University of North Texas with a concentration in Advertising Art and a minor in English. She is convinced that her creative education uniquely equipped her for problem solving and outside-the-box thinking in every situation and across all industries. An additional bonus of the art degree is that her flip chart and white board note-taking skills are unparalleled.
