As an Improvement Advisor with the Built for Zero Collaborative, Sandy (Alexander) Colts brings past experiences in non-profit, government, academic, and health care settings, specializing in substance use, mental health, quality improvement, program management, research & evaluation, and health care transformation following the Affordable Care Act. Originally an Atlantan, Sandy migrated north in 2008 to complete a dual-Masters program in Social Work (clinical practice) and Public Health (health policy & management) at Boston University. He then spent several years working as a Research Associate with the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) and Commonwealth Fund, where he developed new systems for program evaluation and knowledge management and helped lead qualitative research projects. Before joining Community Solutions, Sandy worked as the Program Manager for Behavioral Health Care Transformation at Cambridge Health Alliance, leading efforts to improve clinical practice and operations in order to reduce health inequities experienced by adults with substance use disorders and serious mental illness.
