Rockford Register Star: New Rockford nonprofit to provide affordable housing, fight homelessness

  |  September 3, 2019
[Rockford, Illinois] is nationally recognized for effectively ending homelessness among veterans and the chronically homeless — placing them in housing within 30 days from the point of identification. Now the department is setting its sights on eliminating homelessness among youth and families.

The new organization — called a Community Housing Development Organization — would be structured to allow the city to access an estimated half-million-dollar federal grant to be used to turn vacant properties into affordable housing for the working poor and the homeless, said Human Services Director George Davis.
