A local non-profit will collect clean blankets at the Veterans Day Parade Friday in Portland’s Hollywood District to distribute to homeless veterans. The effort comes on the heels of a new national survey showing that veterans tend to be homeless longer and at a higher rate than non-veterans. As a result, they are more likely to develop health and substance abuse problems.
