The Home Depot Foundation

The Home Depot Foundation works to improve the homes and lives of U.S. veterans, train skilled tradespeople to fill the labor gap and support communities impacted by natural disasters. Since 2011, the Foundation has invested more than $375 million in veteran causes and improved more than 50,000 veteran homes and facilities. The Foundation has pledged to invest half of a billion dollars in veteran causes by 2025 and $50 million in training the next generation of skilled tradespeople through the Path to Pro program.

The Foundation has been a partner of Community Solutions since 2012. They helped Community Solutions pilot a new real estate model, designed to house veterans much more quickly than traditionally financed projects. This model, tested in Denver, proved so successful that it’s being rolled out to new cities with their support, including Atlanta.

Operation Surprise at Abrigo

In 2019, The Home Depot Foundation began supporting the new Large Cities Cohort of Built for Zero, a select group of large cities working together to end veteran homelessness. Their support is helping these cities to remove barriers and help them achieve reductions in veteran homelessness.

Additionally, Team Depot, The Home Depot’s associate volunteer force, has participated in service days in our D.C. and Denver properties. In 2020, as part of their annual Operation Surprise campaign, they covered a month of rent for veterans living at Abrigo and The John and Jill Ker Conway Residence to help ease any additional financial pressure imposed during the COVID-19 pandemic.
